Thrifty Finds & Hexie Progress

I love great garage sales out of the blue kind of days, when you find great stuff at great prices!!!
This beautiful sturdy and perfect condition wood plant stand for only $4!
I'm always looking for serving flatware pieces, and I found all of these for about 75¢ - $1 each.  The glass spoon holder was also a dollar.
Brand new tea towels and a flour sack tea towel for pennies!!!
The flour sack tea towel needs a good washing, and will eventually sport a pretty simple crochet border.  The coffee tea towel will go perfectly on our small coffee station.  The other two tea towels are going home to AZ.
 OMG...$1 each...sugar & creamer set!!!
I just couldn't believe when I found this china teaspoon at the bottom of a basket full of heavy stuff intact!  I think it was 25¢.  The pretty springy runner (more like a dresser scarf) was like 50¢!  Brand new, but vintage.
I was so ecstatic when I got crazily ecstatic!

Hexies Report:
So far I have sewn together 7 hexagon flowers, and....just 35 more to go!!!😲

Yarn Wreath...Getting Ready For Winter

While Pinterest-ing I was inspired by many beautiful handmade yarn wreaths; and finally had a chance to make mine!

This winter theme wrapped yarn wreath will eventually be hung on the front door (between storm door & house door) for the remainder of the year;...
but for now is hanging on the entryway door closet.

Last week I went to Michaels and bought most of the required supplies for the wreath at great prizes.  I had planned on making the flowers out of felt, but later decided that it would be best to just buy already made embellishments at great discounts.

Once done, I hung it on this doorknob, and...
It slipped and hit the floor and broke my already decorated styrofoam wreath!

Gorilla Glue to the rescue!

All fixed now, and neatly hung on the entryway closet door!

Better an "oops" than a "what if".

MN State Fair 2017

Time is flying by so quickly, and the Minnesota State Fair has come and gone!
Hubby and I had a great time at the Fair this year, and the weather helped so was absolutely perfect!
We enjoyed watching these equestrians and their horses performed.  They all so look so regal!

There's always great music and singers...
performing different genres.

We even had time to sit for half-an-hour an watch the local news at 4:00 pm.  Bleachers were hard on our derrieres though..LOL!
So much to see, do, taste and drink at the State Fair.
Ya know you're from Minnesota when...
State Fair is a holiday.  Cheese curds are mandatory.

Yarn Happiness

Yesterday I went to Michaels to take advantage of their yarn sale.

I only had in mind getting these Caron Cakes skeins of yarn to try it out;
but ended up picking up more stuff...hehehe...!

Since I was already there, I decided to go ahead and get some supplies for some projects I have been thinking about making:
I'm working on making a wreath made out of yarn...let's see how that turns out to be.  I remembered I needed to get or replace two of my crochet hooks (I have no idea what happened to my G & H hooks...I guess I misplaced them...argh!).  The jar candles were $2 a piece, and now the house has that fallish scent.
The best part was that Michaels is currently having this promotion where you earn "buck$" from the total of your purchase...woo-hoo! use in October.

I couldn't resist picking up more cotton yarn for dishcloths or hot pads to make.  I am running low on my stash.
I came home a very happy lady!

I like long, romantic walks down the yarn aisle

Last month Hubby and I went to this year's annual Polish Festival in Minneapolis, and I treated myself to something Polish - amber earrings.
Amber happens to be the gemstone of Poland as told to me by the jewelry merchants at the festival in the last 4-5 years.

This year I tried a new Polish beer and it was very good; especially after finally learning to dance the Polka!!!
It was so much fun dancing!!!  I enjoyed it so much.  I even did one many firsts!!!
Sorry no picture of me dancing...Hubby didn't think of taking one of me dancing with the instructor; but he did say I did great!

Dance with your HEART
your feet will follow.

Fun Day

Yesterday was a gorgeous day to stay couped up inside the house, so Cousin Laura (cousin from another mother...actually Hubbies' cousin) and I met at her place and had a Girlz Day or afternoon!
Before leaving my house I took pictures of our end-of-the-season daylilies in bloom, and
our row of blooming hostas!

Before getting to Cousin Laura's, I just had to make a quick pit stop at a garage sale!
Christmas goodies at great prices.  A brand new tablecloth, garlands, ornaments, and some vintage Christmas cookie cutters; all going home with me to Arizona!
When I arrived at Cousin Laura's, I tempted her to go and do a little garage sale-ing in her neighborhood; and of course she agreed...more on that on a later post to come...

After our little shopping adventure, we returned to her home and sat down to watch Thelma & Louise.  Believe it or not, I had never had the chance to watch this movie; and I was not disappointed...loved Susan Sarandon's performance.
I hadn't had a Girlz get-together in a while, and it was really good for my soul!

By the time I got home and finally had a chance to put my feet up (oh was such an exhausting day 😉), I remembered I had found a skein of cotton yarn at one of the garage sales for 25¢.  So while catching up with two of my favorite shows on TV: The Sinner with Jessica Biel & Project Runway; I ended up making a very simple pink single crochet dishcloth, 3 flower pink bookmarks and a tiny 4-petal pink flower to eventually embellish a project.
Like I mentioned before...It was a gorgeous day as it is blessed.

Preparing for Christmas: Crochet Wreath Ornaments

Crochet Wreath Christmas Tree Ornaments

Early in June I started working on some Christmas crafts.  These DIY ornaments are a repeat from last year's Christmas crafts.  I really enjoyed making these, that I decided to make a lot more for this coming Christmas.
I used Mason Jar rings, wooden curtain rings, brass rings (macrame rings), old bracelets from the 80's-90's, and whatever I could find.
My sister is a regular Goodwill shopper, and always finds for me some of these items.  Thanks Sissy!

Here are some I have decorated using all kinds of ephemera...from vintage to new:
I went through my Christmas button pins' jewelry box, and used some to decorate wreaths.  It was hard to part with some of these adorable buttons that I've had for years; and were given to me by friends.
Lisa, a fellow teacup swap partner send me a whole bag filled with the red Scrabble tiles, and I finally had a chance to use them.  I was able to spell out about 10-12 Christmas related words using these tiles.  I glued the words onto popscicle sticks.
The leaves and other ornaments on most of the wreaths are vintage that I had been saving (floral supplies).
The crochet patterns are simply random.  I didn't use any patterns...I just winged it as I saw fit.  I used stitches I already knew from memory.
The little white and gold hanging bell on the left ornament, is actually an earring from a set I own.  I decorated one green wreath to see how it would turn out, and I have to say I love it!  Sequins, vintage leaves and buttons were the finishing touches.
The wreath on the left you has another of my pins, more Scrabble words, and red gingham ribbon.  The wreath on the right, I kept simple by using more vintage leaves and a decorated wooden star.
These wreaths were made using yarn.  I added a crochet chain loop to each to hang easily (about 15-20 stitches).
I have also been working on other different the crochet jute, snowflakes and religious wreaths.
These make perfect little gifts for love ones during Christmas time.  They can be added to cards, part of the wrapped gifts, favors, or simply to decorate your own tree.

Knitteapolis at the State Fair

Last week was our annual trip to the MN State Fair, and I was happy to come across this new exhibit called The Great MN Knit Together.
It wasn't all knitting as you can see...crochet was very welcomed.
Here's the lady who started yarnbombing the Twin Cities...Knitteapolis.

My Hubbie posing with one of three yarnbombed horses...

We really enjoyed this exhibit a lot and hopefully I'll be able to contribute a little yarnbomb project for next year!
